Hip flexors, in the human anatomy, refer to a cluster of skeletal muscles which help you move your knees forward. The muscles in your hip flexors are known as the iliopsoas, Psoas major, Psoas small and Iliacus muscle.

The hip flexor muscle group located in the middle of your thigh and abdomen. These muscles in your hip flexors become active when you stand up, run, walk, dance, climb up a flight of stairs, play certain sports, or when you do any type of physical activity that requires the use of your legs.

To do a lunge properly you'll want to bend one of your knees to a ninety degree angle, and place it at the front of your body. While keeping your other leg behind you begin lowering your body towards the floor until your foot in the rear is about to touch the floor. Hold this lunge position you're in for about 10 seconds and then return to the standing position you started in.
